Often referred to as “Little Kashmir”, Munsiyari is a cosy hamlet located in the Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of 2298 metres, the pretty little hill town is known for its panorama of snow-capped Himalayan Range and some adventurous trekking trails.
Perched between the borders of India, Tibet and Nepal, Munsiyari is a base for three glaciers namely Namik, Milam and Ralam Glaciers. The scenic village is often seen romancing with brilliant weather throughout the year and the stunning backdrop of Panchachuli (the five peaks), Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot. Also dubbed ‘Gateway to Johar Valley’, Munsiyari is the starting point of Johar Valley which was the ancient trade route between Tibet and India.
With brilliant weather throughout the year, the summer season offers its visitors a sound chance for a picture perfect clear view of peaks and plenty of trekking options. It welcomes you with a cold climate that will pull you away from the scorching heat. Adventurers may take a trip to this glorious place to find their piece of paradise, for Munsiyari is home to some of the most challenging trekking trails, river rafting, and hiking trails.The winters (November-mid March) are the time when the whole place is covered with the sheet of snow, making it an ideal place for couples and honeymooners. Skiing and other snow sport can be enjoyed during the season. When it comes to the monsoon, heavy rainfall and landslides can ruin your whole trip and thus avoid travelling during the season.

A beautiful place with a very fascinating legend attached to it, Maheshwari Kund is just a few kilometers walk from Munsiyari. Once cursed by a Yakshi who use to live in a small lake there, the place faced drought for several years.
A prominent peak which is visible from all the main points of Pithoragarh district, Panchachuli peak looks majestic from Munsiyari. The beauty of the five peaks lying in the Johar Valley is so captivating; it adds charm to this already delightful place.
Khuliya Top is an easy 10km trek from Munsiyari. It offers a magnificent view in summers of great Himalayan ranges. The five famous peaks namely Panchachuli, Hardeol, Rajrambha, Nandakot and Nandadevi are clearly visible from here and this makes it an amazing experience for even a first time trekker.
